Hi! My name is Amanda Card and I am freshman attending Florida State University currently majoring in Elementary Education. Originally I was born in Maryland, but now when not at school call Sarasota, Florida home. Being in Tallahassee makes me miss the beach, which is something I took for granted when I lived ten minutes away from one, and my dog. Her name is Bella and is a Dalmatian mix who I sadly could not bring to school with me, but I am grateful my older brother took over the job of being her dog parent for me. When not studying I enjoy playing lacrosse, babysitting, and going out with friends whenever I can.

Personally, I have not had a lot of prior experience using technology in an education setting. Most experience I have are with the resources such as Microsoft word and powerpoint while using them in class during middle and high school. When I volunteered/ worked at an after school care program I would help elementary students with logging in to their Microsoft computers. Other than that I do not have any other experience using technology in an educational setting, but I am excited to learn!

Learning networks I use regularly to support my learning needs and goals are GroupMe, Quizlet, and Google Calendar. GroupMe is a great resource to connect with other students in your classes to communicate and share ideas on the subjects/ topics you are learning in class. I use Quizlet mostly for studying purposes, more specifically the learn feature, which helps you memorize and comprehend what you need to know for tests and/or quizzes. Lastly, Google Calendar is an extremely helpful tool to help you stay organized with all assignments, tests, and quizzes for all your classes.

  1. Hi Amanda, I think its really interesting that you stated that you don't have a lot of experience using technology prior to now because growing up for me in my school we relied so heavily on it. Weird to realize that not everyone did grow up with it. I just wanted to ask if, now being in college do you find yourself or have you become more involved online, via Instagram, TikTok, etc. or are you more of technology solely for Education purposes? You stated for your PLN you use a lot of education apps to help study and be organized so it just interests me in seeing if you use technology for any other purposes. Do you have friends or teachers that could also possibly be part of your PLN?

  2. Hi Amanda, I am also a freshman majoring in Elementary Education! Unlike you, I did not use Microsoft word and PowerPoint in middle and high school so I'm very unfamiliar with it. I think its really cool that you helped elementary school students logging in to their Microsoft computers. I also use GroupMe and Quizlet to support my learning needs, however, I've never used Google Calendar. I usually just write down things I need to do in a planner. You seem to really like the network so I'll check it out!

  3. Hey Amanda, I am definitely felt your pain when you talked about the beaches. Going to the beach is something that helps me relax and I just feel free when I'm there. I can also relate to helping younger kids to use Microsoft as being an area of use of technology. I'm thankful for the opportunity to have had an entire class in high school that taught the basics of Microsoft, Word, and Excel.

  4. Hey Amanda, I also worked at my old elementary school. That job was what really won me over into pursuing education. I also definitely get missing the beach, I'm from St. Augustine and I didn't realize how far FSU was from the Gulf. My mom keeps telling me to use Google Calendar since I'm so forgetful, I might have to give it a try. The most relatable thing though is missing my dogs, I can't wait to see them again.
